From Avalanche to Bear encounter: A Day of Extreme Mountain Adventures

After climbing 300 peaks in High Tatras I was to much testing my immunity to dangerous situations. It was a long time ago, but 10 minutes after hiking to Baranec in winter this happend on the way down. I triggered a roughly 400 m avalanche by lying on my backpack on my stomach and trying to ride down.
After just a few meters, I was pushing a huge pile of snow in front of me, which instantly triggered the avalanche.
At first, the avalanche hit me from behind and started rolling me sideways. I only enjoyed it for a brief moment. I had to swim to the edge to remove the snow from my goggles, as I could no longer see anything.

After about a minute of rest, I managed to get onto a snow chute that was still flowing after the avalanche for another 1-2 minutes, and I easily slid down on my backpack headfirst at about 15 km/h.

Then 5 minutes later a female bear started making aggressive circles near her den. As soon as I saw she had cubs, I stepped back.
