Itinerary:

1. Meeting with the local wildlife expert at about 13:00 at the Podbanske in Tatras at a parking lot and taking over the powerful binoculars.

2. Next is the journey to one of the three valleys where there is the greatest possibility of seeing a brown bear. During the hike, we will show the Bear trees and further we show Bear holes in the slopes and we stop with binoculars at the spotting positions from where we usually watch them. As soon as we spot a single bear, or a bear with cubs, we stop and observe the bears with powerful binoculars .

3. Before returning from bear observation, I will conduct a training on how to behave in individual encounters with a bear based on my own experience. I will also share my stories from close encounters with bears and observations of bears hunting other animals in the wild.

 

Indicative timetable:

PROGRAM (time is approximate – it will change according to the season)

• 13:00  – Meeting at the parking lot in Podbanske
• 13:00  – 14:30  – Hike through the valley in the Western Tatras, approx. 1.5 hours up to one of the three adjacent Tatra valleys (Western Tatras) to the bear spotting places
• 14:30 – 18:30  – Arriving at wild bear viewing sites offering the best chances to spot a brown bear, combined with insights into the bears’ lives in the valley and training on how to behave in case of an encounter.
• 18:30  – 20:30 – The way back along the hiking trail to the parking lot at Podbanske.
